Question: What was the first computer to perform a trillion operations per second?
Answer: The GRAPE IV, or Gravity Pipeline. Constructed by an astrophysicist and his students at the University of Tokyo, they wanted to study the
phenomenon of globular clusters of stars but didn’t have access to the
computing power to do it.
